Is it possible to a big no-no to screen time for these generation kids?
We read lots and lots of content about how mobile or any gadgets are harmful to kids and unfortunately all are true!!
But my question is, is it really possible to avoid kids screen time 100%?
For mommy like me, I mean for normal, ordinary mom I think it’s not possible because it is digital era and kids from this era are already very smart, fast, learn things easily.
So, What to do ?
मला असं वाटत प्रत्येक नाण्याला दोन बाजु असतात!
And I see only positive side!
There are many many things (positive) that kids can learn from gadgets. Like,
- Good musical poems/ rhymes
- Moral stories
- Colour recognisation Etc.
Because today on YouTube there are many colourful cute, animated channel available for kids like Cocomelon, ChuChuTV and many more.
One day I was ill and my kiddos came in my room with one bowl of cold water and handkerchief and started applying that wet cloth on my head I was so surprised how they manage this?
Then my daughter told me, she saw a song “my little baby not feeling well” there are so many things, so many such songs that teach our kids unknowingly important lesson of life!!
Like, my kids learnt about colours, vegetables, fruits, farm animals, alphabets recognition due to this YouTube channels!
I know books also did all these things but I think this cute animations increases their imagination very broadly. (I am not opposing power of books reading but that totally different topic)
2.Secondly they can learn many languages. like we also surprise how my daughter easily capture Hindi language as my mother tongue is Marathi and marwadi.
3. Third benefit of these gadgets is due to this
our kids are at least connected with their school in this pandemic. (I know many parents oppose this online sessions of school but I think some time “something is better than nothing “
so how I restricted their screen time as this too very important
1. firstly I tried to get them busy in many activities with me like, pouring water to our garden (They did lots of mess-up)
2.keep utensils on their designated places and many more such small activities.
3.I always tried to available them some interesting toys.
4.Strictly give them time for their playground activities.(can’t dare to miss this ritual every evening because they love playing in garden so so much!)
As a lot of people are agreeing these days that children have no respect for “NO” word, they do what they want eventually. So I never restrict anything fully, rather become very much conscious about what they saw on the mobile, which game they downloaded on Mobile( yeah my four year girl easily download what she wants I am not saying this proudly, but I just accept the reality that she is digital era’s kid!)
Maximum time I never allow them watch or play games alone. I am always around them, when they are watching something on Mobile.
I always get involved by doing things like,
तू काय पाहते आहेस?
हा कुठला Animal आहे?
तो कसा आवाज काढतो?
हा game कसा खेळायचा?
After watching any story I ask them, so what is moral of the story? so on..
बाकी,
as I told you, I am ordinary mom so some time I give them gadgets to eat fast.. give them gadgets in restaurants or kitty parties
घे आणि बघ पण मला थोडा free time दे माझ्या friends सोबत!
After all our peace of mind also important!
